Hey my name is Jean Louise Finch, or as I prefer to be called, Scout. Today at school when I was talking to Cecil Jacobs, he announced in front of the whole school yard that my daddy, Atticus, defends black people. I told him that could not be possible, but everyone said it was true. I thought that since the Jim Crow Law states that blacks and whites were supposed to be separated, that maybe it wouldn’t be true. So I went home and asked Atticus myself. He said that what Cecil said was true. Although the word around town was that Atticus shouldn’t do much about defending Tom Robinson, he still does. He said that one of the main reasons for defending Tom Robinson was because if he didn’t then he wouldn’t be able to hold his head up in town or represent the country we live in in legislature. And also because Atticus wouldn’t be able to tell Jem and I not to do anything ever again. I don’t really understand why Atticus wouldn’t be able to tell us not to do anything, but I guess if it’s what he says then he must be right. So the trial is coming up within the next couple of months and Atticus is spending a lot of time preparing for it. I’m really hoping that the trial goes well and that Atticus wins. Although I know that when it is a black person being prosecuted they are usually found guilty. I hope that this will be the case that changes that. So this will be only one of the first of my blogs that I will be posting. The next one I will write while I’m in the trial. Hopefully Atticus will let me come and watch. Good- bye until next time fellow bloggers.
