From a positive start, to a negative finish.

Hello again to all of you! Scout here again with some very sad news. As of today, Tom Robinson was found guilty for the rape and assault of Mayella Ewell. After all of the evidence that was shown as to why Tom Robinson should be proven to be innocent, not one single person on the jury thought that he was. I bet you that most of them did believe that he was innocent it’s just that none of them had the courage to stand up for what they believe in. All because of what they thought the people of Maycomb would think if they voted innocent for a black man up for such a charge. I just don’t understand why they couldn’t just speak their mind, even if it meant going against what everyone else thought. Was it really worth sending an innocent man to jail? Well I don’t think it was and I think that things need to change around here to make sure that incidents like these don’t ever go wrong again. Even if it means proving that a black person may be found innocent for a crime that a white person committed.  This should have been done in this case in which I believe that Mr. Robert Ewell should have been found guilty for the offenses that they blamed on Tom Robinson. All of the evidence pointed to him but still no one wanted to convict a white man for such charges. So Atticus is going to go for an appeal, and we hope that everything will turn out fine after that happens. Hopefully we can knock some sense into people! So I guess this will be my last blog for a little while, I hope all of you have enjoyed reading these. Thank you for reading!

The Trial

Hello to all you fellow bloggers, it’s Scout here again. So last time I talked about how my daddy, Atticus, was going to be defending a black male by the name of Tom Robinson in an up and coming trial. This will be one of my daddy’s biggest trials he has ever had and if he wins it, it will be a very big deal. So I’m sitting here in the courthouse up on the balcony with a bunch of black people. I’ve never seen the courthouse so packed before! I guess it’s because usually there aren’t a lot of major trials that happen here, mostly things like stealing, and speeding tickets. But this is one of the biggest cases that has ever been brought to trial in Maycomb County that I have ever heard of! Everybody that lives in Maycomb County is here. Families like the Ewells, the Cunninghams, and a bunch of other people. There is no where to sit and people are standing because no one wants to miss this exciting trial. Tom Robinson looks nervous, which I guess is to be expected. That was until Atticus started talking about reasons why Tom isn’t guilty. Atticus made some really strong points as to why Tom is innocent. Points like showing how Tom is left handed and could not have possibly beaten about the right side of Mayella Ewells face. I’m really starting to believe him, despite what everyone else thinks. I think that on the night that Mayella Ewell was assaulted that it was actually her father who did it to her and not Tom. Like why wouldn’t you take your daughter to a doctor after something like that happened, unless you had something to hide that you didn’t want anyone else to know? It seems that a lot of Atticus’s points seem to prove that Robert Ewell might be guilty of a crime like this. But it isn’t Robert up for the convictions it is Tom, and the chances of a white man being convicted for a crime that a black man commited is very slim, so I guess we will have to wait until we find out the outcome of the trial. So until then, hope all you fellow bloggers enjoy reading this and I will write to you next time with the outcome of the trial.

True or False?

Hey my name is Jean Louise Finch, or as I prefer to be called, Scout. Today at school when I was talking to Cecil Jacobs, he announced in front of the whole school yard that my daddy, Atticus, defends black people. I told him that could not be possible, but everyone said it was true. I thought that since the Jim Crow Law states that blacks and whites were supposed to be separated, that maybe it wouldn’t be true. So I went home and asked Atticus myself. He said that what Cecil said was true. Although the word around town was that Atticus shouldn’t do much about defending Tom Robinson, he still does. He said that one of the main reasons for defending Tom Robinson was because if he didn’t then he wouldn’t be able to hold his head up in town or represent the country we live in in legislature. And also because Atticus wouldn’t be able to tell Jem and I not to do anything ever again. I don’t really understand why Atticus wouldn’t be able to tell us not to do anything, but I guess if it’s what he says then he must be right. So the trial is coming up within the next couple of months and Atticus is spending a lot of time preparing for it. I’m really hoping that the trial goes well and that Atticus wins. Although I know that when it is a black person being prosecuted they are usually found guilty. I hope that this will be the case that changes that. So this will be only one of the first of my blogs that I will be posting. The next one I will write while I’m in the trial. Hopefully Atticus will let me come and watch. Good- bye until next time fellow bloggers.
